Why do you like teaching Spanish?
I like teaching Spanish because I can meet people from other countries and learn so much about thier culture and how they live. And also teaching Spanish helps expand our culture and Guatemalan traditions and that way we could talk without help of a dictionary or a translator.

What are the challenges of being a Spanish teacher?
Keep up with the change in Spanish language with "real academia de la lengua". Update and improve my teaching materials, textbooks, dictionaries, etc. Helping students with learning Spanish in interesting and fun way.

How do you make your class interesting?
Having activities like visiting places of interests, and experiencing real Guatemalan life in the markets and museums. Playing vocabulary games related to vocabularies and theme of the day.

How was your favorite student?
Kind, always smiling and fun, and with plenty of interest to learn to speak Spanish.

What do you do to grow as a professional and person?
As a professional, i attend seminars, lectures and other types of classes for professional development to learn something new every day. Personally, I spend time with my family and help them out by doing whatever I can do for them.

What is the best of Xela?
The best place to have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, and study or chat is "café museo la luna”at the center of the city. The best thing about Xela is the culture and the customs of people in Xela.

What would you do if you have only one more week of life?
I will spend my time with my family and friends for the first 3 days and I will travel around Guatemala for the rest of the week.

What were you doing 15 years ago?
I was 7 year old girl and I was studying in 1st grade in a girl's school. I could play all the time and I didn't have to go to work. It was a good time.

What will you be doing in 15 years down the road?
I will be 37 and I will be taking care of a small family and working as a teacher because that's what I like.

Who is/was the most influential person in your life?
My mother is the most influential person. She has influenced my life in the way that I can get ahead in my life. Since she couldn't study and had to work when she was a child, when I learned to read and write, I was able to help her so much.

What is the Guatemala's biggest social issue?
The Guatemala's biggest problem is education. Our country doesn't have real education system since the government offers very little help in rural areas.

What do you propose to solve the Guatemala's problems?
First the government has to give more budget in education in all levels, both in urban and rural schools. Then, more budget for foods should be allocated since many children come to school without having a breakfast. There are programs for that but they are not enough. And finally, we need to work together to teach and learn to read and write.
