Writing Spanish
- I keep my diary in Spanish. Even though it's not much, I write it every day.
- I wrote compositions periodically and had my native Spanish speaking friend look over it.
- When I wrote papers, I used expressions I found from books in Spanish. I was able to learn lots of expressions and idioms that way because whenever I found myself in a similar situation, I used the same expression over and over.
- I think the papers I read helped me in my writing. I learned many idiomatic expressions from textbooks used in reading classes and if I haven't read so much, I don't think I would've never been able to write like now.
- Up until intermediate level, I learned vocabularies in a whole sentence. From their, I used periodicals to increase my vocabularies in specific area. Instead of learning general vocabularies, you can feel the effectiveness better by learning vocabularies from specific area.
- I looked for useful expressions from the paperbacks I read. I used them whenever I spoke and wrote.
- There is a way of learning new words by using prefixes and suffixes. That was a big help. My vocabularies took a huge jump. It's essential step toward advanced level.
- When I wrote papers in Spanish, I borrowed some expressions from books with things similar to what I wanted to communicate. It's interesting to see how the borrowed expressions in the beginning become expressions of my own later on. When you keep reading, you will see many expressions that you can use in other contexts. Sometimes, I took some risk by tweaking the expressions a bit. In those cases, I had my friend take a look at my paper.
- I read all the books by the Spanish author and memorized my favorite parts. It's like stealing his literary style and now I can write just like him.
- Reading and writing are related. What you read will come out when you write. You can't create something out of nothing.
- I used to read in order to write. When I read books from the fields that I wanted to write about, I naturally began to understand the sentences in Spanish.
- Repeating to read and write is what improves one's ability to compose.
- Reading lots of books, I learned to write naturally.
- I've collected the sentences with similar expressions from different authors and decided to modify them a bit. You have to increase the number of the collection that sounds like Spanish.
- Write a composition and have someone you can trust look over it. It's probably better to ask a native speaker. In the end, you can learn the corrected parts.
